CPHNO Supports Reproductive Rights

This post was originally published September 21, 2021

Healthcare is a human right for all people. The Council of Public Health Nursing Organizations (CPHNO) believes all women and birthing people in Texas, the US and across the globe – need access to abortion services regardless of where they live. We support the statement released by the American Public Health Association (APHA) discussing the unconstitutional Texas Senate Bill (SB 8). Abortion care is healthcare and threats to reproductive rights are a public health threat. As public health nurses, we know that people with low incomes, communities of color and other people who may be marginalized will be most impacted by this punitive law. We cannot be silent! We need to support those that have been and will be harmed by this law and support Reproductive Justice organizations, such as Kindred Partners of the Black Mamas Matter Alliance that are providing critical support, resources, and services during this very challenging time. We also believe we must encourage others to question and know where candidates running for office stand on Reproductive Rights.  Contributions to the statement made by Ifeyinwa Asiodu PhD, RN, IBCLC, FAAN & Katie Huffling, DNP, RN, CNM, FAAN
